Houston's Largest Teachers Union Calls Community to Action

Letter from Jackie Anderson, president of the Houston Federation of Teachers (HFT), Local 2415, AFL-CIO.

Dear Community Members,

I am writing to you today with a matter of great urgency that deeply concerns our community – the state takeover of our public school district. As you may be aware, our district has been under state control for far too long, and it's time for us to reclaim local governance over our schools.

The state takeover not only undermines the voice of our community but also hinders our ability to make decisions that directly impact the education and well-being of our children. Our schools deserve leadership that is accountable to the people they serve, not distant bureaucrats making decisions from afar.

We believe that by mobilizing our community, we can bring about meaningful change and put an end to this unjust takeover. But we cannot do it alone. We need your support, your voice, and your commitment to join our campaign.

Here's how you can help:

  1. Spread the word: Talk to your friends, family, and neighbors about the importance of ending the state takeover of our schools. Share information about our campaign on social media and encourage others to get involved.

  2. Attend meetings: Join us at community meetings, school board gatherings, and other events where we can discuss our concerns and plan our next steps. Your presence and participation are invaluable.

  3. Contact elected officials: Reach out to our state representatives and other elected officials to express your opposition to the state takeover and urge them to support local control of our schools.

  4. Volunteer: Whether it's organizing events, distributing flyers, or reaching out to local media, there are countless ways you can contribute your time and skills to our campaign.

  5. Support our “No More Harm” campaign: Add your personal and/or organizational support to our campaign. Send us your logo and attend our campaign planning meetings. Together, we can make a difference.

Together, we have the power to make a difference and ensure that our public schools are governed by those who know and care about our community the most – us. Let's stand united in this fight for educational justice and the future of our children.

Thank you for your support and dedication to our cause.

In Power and Unity,

Jackie Anderson
